…continuing pages from my visual journal – The Garden

This next image in the visual journal about the garden was a fun risk taker!  I wanted to really get the feel of the garden in terms of structure, back-breaking work, chores etc because the garden was not just about visual and mental inspiration but it also reflected the daily work which was needed to achieve this. Nothing happens without focus and work!

I gathered bits from the garden – bamboo leaves, string netting – and used these to create a response to this aspect of ‘garden’.  This was hard work, all of the collage pieces resisted being used in this way, the glue would not stick and the string netting seemed to prefer to glue to my hands rather than the page…great fun!!  Finally I got it all tp stick and then went to work with the paint using my fingers to press the paint into the collage.

This is not an exercise which I feel that I want to take further into a finished image but it was a great exercise in just pushing out the boundaries and seeing what would happen.
